How to fix Corrupt Outlook Express DBX File:

Outlook Express is an email and news client provided by Microsoft along with Internet Explorer versions 4.0 through 6.0 and Microsoft Windows from windows 98 to Windows Server 2003. Using Outlook Express you can create and access multiple user accounts in a single window.  Outlook Express stores all its emails and other attributes data in a database file with the extension of .dbx, which also known as Outlook Express email folders.  Unlike MS Outlook, there will be a separate .dbx file for each attribute in your Outlook express e.g.  For Inbox it will be inbox.dbx, and the set of these files along with the settings will be kept in a DBX folder. Most of the people think that MS Outlook and Outlook Express are same,  but  both are different applications but do have a similar architecture.

Sometimes your Outlook Express denies its access and pop up some unexpected error messages like “Error 0x800C013C”, “An Outlook Express store file may be damaged”. In most of the cases these error messages point to a single reason i.e. corruption of .dbx file. You might be thinking that why does this .dbx file get corrupted? There are various reasons for that. Let us discuss few of them.

  • The size of each .dbx file is limited to 2GB. If the data stored in it reaches or exceeds the limited size then it may lead to corruption.
  • If your .dbx file gets infected by some virus or malware, then it may also corrupt the .dbx file.
  • Since the .dbx files needs to be accessed only through OE, if you try to open it manually using some other applications, it might get corrupted.
  • Since .dbx file is a complex database file, if you terminate OE while accessing .dbx file it may over write the contents of .dbx file with some garbage data which finally results in corruption.

You can avoid this type of situation with a few precautionary measures. Instead of keeping huge amount of data in a single folder, divide it into multiple folders which will never let the .dbx file to exceed its size. Another major step is you can take regular backup of your .dbx file which always keeps you safe in terms of your OE data. A backup will always play an important role in .dbx file corruption. Whenever you face .dbx file corruption just replace with its backup, which is the most easy and safest way.

In the worst case scenario, if you land up with .dbx file corruption without its back up, there is no need to panic, you still have a chance to resolve this issue. You can use inbox repair tool to fix the corrupted .dbx file. At this point of time you might be thinking about your default tool which comes with OE installation package i.e. scanpst.exe, but this tool will not help you to get the desired results. But there are some third party utilities which not only repair the corrupted .dbx file but also recover the data stored in it.

Remo Recover Outlook Express (DBX) is one such a tool which offers an efficient repair process with an advanced scanning algorithm which helps you to repair and recover data from highly corrupted .dbx file. It recovers your emails along with its header so that it’s very easy to categorize. You can download Remo Recover Outlook Express (DBX) for an efficient repair and recovery process.
