Repair PST file after Microsoft Outlook Freezes
Microsoft Outlook is an e-mail client which also works as personal information manager. MS Outlook is included in Microsoft Office suite and is a product of Microsoft which is one of the most famous and popular brands in developing Operating System and Office suites. Microsoft Outlook saves emails on your computer in Outlook Personal Folder file (.PST). Along with the mails it also contains calendar, contacts, task manager, journals etc. There are different versions of Outlook such as MS Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2010. The main advantage of Outlook is that it saves the mail on the computer and can be used offline to view the mailbox and read the emails whenever needed.
In some cases Outlook freezes and fails to operate. The following are the scenarios where Outlook freezes
- Freezing of Outlook while sending mails: - While sending mails from Outlook, it suddenly freezes and halts. It occurs mainly when the user tries to send a large attachment to many people at the same time. The attachments may be projects, zip file, rar file etc.
- When you try to open inbox: - When you open the inbox in Outlook, it may freeze and stop working. This happens when the PST file of Outlook reaches its maximum size of storage or it may also happen when we try to open a mail containing large attachment.
- Upgrading the system with new service pack: - When you upgrade the system with new service pack for example upgrading to service pack 3 from service pack 2 in Windows XP can make some changes in the registry of the system and Outlook may stop working.
Most of the times PST file corruption can lead to freezing of Outlook. Microsoft provides a default Inbox Repair Tool. The tool is associated with a program file-‘Scanpst.exe’ that is designed to examine the structure of corrupted PST files and hence, repair it. Scanpst.exe may fail to fix the corrupted PST either because the file is oversized,or because it is severally corrupted.
To overcome the above limitations of Inbox Repair Tool it is recommended to use third party tools which are capable of recovering corrupt PST file. Remo Repair Outlook (PST) is such a software which can repair corrupted PST file efficiently. It uses advanced algorithms to scan and repair Outlook PST file without changing its original structure and content. The recovered data is saved in a new PST file to ensure the safety of the source PST file. During the repair process it recovers all emails, contacts, tasks manager, notes, calendar, journals etc. along with all the elements existing in that PST file.
Steps to repair corrupt PST file
Step 1: Install demo version of Remo Repair Outlook (PST) and launch it by double clicking on the executable file.
You will get 3 options i.e., OPEN PST FILE, FIND PST FILE and SELECT OUTLOOK PROFILE as shown in Figure a.
Click on “OPEN PST FILE” option when you know the location of the corrupt PST file. Browse and select the corrupted file.
Click on “FIND PST FILE” option when you don’t know the location of the corrupt PST file. The software helps the user find the PST file easily
Clicking “OUTLOOK PROFILE” option to select a PST file based on a profile.
Step 2: In this step you get two options as shown in Figure b.
Normal Scan: This option is selected when the PST file has minor corruption or when Outlook refuses to open due to PST error
Smart Scan: This option is selected when the PST file is severely corrupted. Selecting this option can recover deleted emails, contacts, tasks and other PST components.
Select your option and click on “Repair” to begin the repair process.
Once the repair process is completed, you can preview the recovered PST file data as shown in Figure c. This image shows you that your corrupted PST has been repaired.
